Christmas Artisans Tour

There are only 46 days until Christmas!  I’m not sure exactly what this means for you, but for me it means that it is time to get cracking! There is a list of people who need gifts, not to mention lists of other things to buy, bake, make, and clean!  The shopping part happens to be one of my favourite seasonal things to do.  I love buying presents and the more tailored to the person, the better.  I even love wrapping them, but first things first!

Christmas PresentsI think that one great way to buy presents (and other treats) is to check out the Christmas markets that are happening at this time of year.  It’s a great way to enjoy what towns around you have to offer.  Also, it’s an easy way to get inspired by walking around and seeing what different vendors have to offer.  Just a few of the markets happening over the next few weeks are…

Christmas decorationsThe 2nd Annual Mrs. Claus’ Shop (275 Jensen Drive, Airdrie) is on Saturday, November 16th from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.  This holiday market features over 45 vendors, pictures with Santa, and gift wrapping by donation.   Admission is free.  For more info, please visit here.   The very next day, the Airdrie Christmas Market (Best Western Regency Inn, 121 Edmonton Trail SE, Airdrie) runs from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  This market is sponsored by Airdrie Women in Business and offers the opportunity to browse for some unique gifts.  Admission is free; however, donations for the Airdrie Food Bank will be collected.  For more info, email

Christmas Cookie PlateCanmore Christmas Artisans Market (Canmore Collegiate High School, 1800 8th Ave.) is on November 23rd and 24th running from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  This year is the 18th annual Canmore Christmas Artisans Market, and it will feature art for the home, treats, and traditional crafts.  There will be blown and stained glass, pottery, fine wood work, and hand crafted knives. Still not what you are looking for? There will also be jewelry, silks, chocolates, soaps and handmade paper, furniture, photography, paintings, and carvings, and so much more!  A variety of savory snacks, sweet treats, and drinks will be available.  The cost is $3.00 for adults while children are free.   More info can be found here.

The Cochrane Ranchehouse Christmas Market (101 Ranchehouse Road, Cochrane) is on November 23rd from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  There will be more than 70 vendors offering a wide variety of fine crafts, jewelry, home furnishings, decorations, clothing, art, photography, and more!   Santa will be there to have his picture taken.  Admission is free, and donations to the Cochrane Food Bank are welcome. 

Spruce Meadows in the Snow The Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market presented by TELUS runs for 3 weekends, (November 15th to 17th; November 22nd to 24th; and November 29th to December 1st) so there are lots of opportunities to get there!  It is an enormous market, so pace yourself!  There are 270 vendors spreading the Christmas spirit with 74 km of Christmas lights strung around the grounds which can be enjoyed while the fire pits keep you warms.  There is live entertainment (signing, dancing, and instrumental) to add to the festive atmosphere.   This market has gift-ideas from items imported from around the world to local hand-crafted gifts to create a beautiful and stress-free place to shop.  More info and pre-paid tickets can be obtained by clicking here.
